I can remember the dinners that we used to have when I was younger. My parents and grandparents will come by and we would talk for hours sharing a bottle of red wine. My grandparents were from France, so this was the tradition that we grew up with.

One of the first lessons they taught me was that if you are going to be a wine connoisseur you must not only know about the drink itself but also the tools used in opening, pouring, aerating etc.  is with this in mind is that they handed down to me their old-fashioned laguiole corkscrew. At first I wasn’t a big fan of wine however as I grew older and became more mature it inevitably became part of my life just as it did my family generations ago. And I can say that the gift of a laguiole corkscrew was one of the best that beat me to a deeper into the wine industry.

A laguiole corkscrew is not only a wine opener but it is also a piece of art.  The engravings on it are so meticulously well done that I have a hard time justifying any cheap set of wine tools just to have them.  I like investing in quality especially for something that holds true to my heart.

I’ve given many of my friends tips on wine, but I am sure to point them to any laguiole manufacturer when it comes to buying any utility tools whether it be wine related or something else.

Laguiole Pocket Knives

In my younger years I used to go camping very often.  My older brothers or father would take care of is for the most part but as I grew more mature I’ve liked the added responsibility of doing more work while in the outdoors.  There’s no better way to bond with your family and also with nature at the same time.  However that doesn’t mean that comes without effort – and the most handy tool that I’ve ever purchased for this endeavor is a laguiole pocket knife.

I can’t tell you how many times I would come across something that I needed a sharp blade for. Whether it be trimming a stick for s’mores, cutting dry grass for tinder, or cutting a string while you’re out on the trail, a laguiole pocket knife will help you get through all of these obstacles without any trouble.

It’s funny because I originally bought the knife based on its traditional and artistic appeal. The design was very beautiful and I tend to collect pieces of art from France so it only made sense that I went with a knife from the laguiole region. But when I actually took it out and use that in the field I was thoroughly impressed by its capabilities.

That’s why I can’t recommend a laguiole pocket knife anymore highly.  It’s paid for itself many times over for me and I can imagine going camping without one.
